OK, forgive me if I ramble but here are my thoughts. I want to see some news coverage on the subject of Internet Gambling. I have to admit that thinking that, I also wonder if it is the right way to think. With the war going on, does this problem seem petty? Well, not to me when I want to gamble online and my government is trying to stop me.

I like NBC News and watch it every night. I am thinking we could send emails to nightly@nbc.com asking them to do a report on this issue. I would be happy to give them my two cents. As gamblers, we all know it's going on, but who else knows?

George Bush, in his State of the Union address said the following "Next, there is the matter of earmarks. These special interest items are often slipped into bills at the last hour -- when not even C-SPAN is watching. (Laughter.) In 2005 alone, the number of earmarks grew to over 13,000 and totaled nearly $18 billion. Even worse, over 90 percent of earmarks never make it to the floor of the House and Senate -- they are dropped into committee reports that are not even part of the bill that arrives on my desk. You didn't vote them into law. I didn't sign them into law. Yet, they're treated as if they have the force of law. The time has come to end this practice. So let us work together to reform the budget process, expose every earmark to the light of day and to a vote in Congress, and cut the number and cost of earmarks at least in half by the end of this session." Is what happened to us much different? A bill that on it's own may not have passed, so let's sneak it into a bill we know will.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I think that we could make a difference here but it's going to take a lot of us writing to get some attention. So...what do you all think?

If you have any ideas let us all know we will pitch right in there. Maybe I better speak for myself here.

Franny, I think you're onto something here...the news media may not be as interested in the gambling prohibition, but it would make a great example for them to use to show US citizens that laws get sneaked in without even the Presiden'ts knowledge....Bush admits it. It's obvious he's talking about the budget, here, but doesn't that also apply to everything else? I think ABC's John Stossel would also give this a good go. Another angle would be how President Bush and the current Legislature uses the 9/11 tragedy as an excuse to stomp all over our civil and Constitutional rights by pandering to special interest groups and lobbyists. Why is betting on horse races on the internet legal? Isn't horse racing a sport? These guys need to nail some balls to the wall, here, and really investigate. I will bang out a good letter and post it here, so that people will get some ideas on what to say when they send email.

Excellent thought process - Franny go with it!

I believe in the strength of the people.
We choose who is in office and what they deliver to us.
NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.
